This 2016 single-vineyard Chardonnay was hand harvested from a small vineyard on the Wairau in Marlborough. Grapes were hand harvested, whole bunch pressed and fermented in older French barriques. 25% of this wine went through a wild ferment and 100% went through natural malolactic fermentation.

2016 Vintage details
The growing season was a little slow to start with unpredictable cold temperatures - there was some frost damage throughout the region. It was very dry up until Christmas and flowering conditions near perfect. Some good rains in January and February resulted in healthy canopies. This was followed by a very warm autumn, 30 degree days were common. Harvest commenced mid-March. Chardonnay yields were lighter than usual.
"A lovely expression of Chardonnay on the nose. The combination of ripe pure fruits, barrel and bottle development presents a bouquet with complexity and allure. On the palate- the ideas presented in the bouquet come alive with textures and flavours of grapefruit and stone fruit, white tree fruit and oak tones. Again the bottle development has allowed harmonies to arrive adding complexity. Nice weight and balance, excellent acid line and just the right measure of oak, smoke, toast and spice. Well made and ready. Drink now and through to 2023." 93 Points.

This wine is a single vineyard expression of Chardonnay. The fruit is hand harvested and fermented in old oak barrels using a combination of wild and inoculated yeasts.
I love tasting wine that has a little age, I think we drink our wines far too young. Incredibly expressive nose, the peach, apple, toasted spices, with touches of vanilla pod and grapefruit are harmoniously melded together. The palate is lean and lively with apple, crunchy stone fruit and citrus flavours, lovely fresh acidity with a lingering warming spice finish.
